FAQ's

  • How much does it cost to make a Will in Melton Mowbray?

Our fixed fees start at £300 + VAT for a Simple Single Will and £400 + VAT for a Mirror Will (for couples). Complex Wills – for example those involving trusts, business interests or significant inheritance tax planning – are priced at your free initial consultation so you know the exact cost before you commit.

  • How long does it take to write a Will?

Once we’ve received your final instructions, we aim to have your Will ready to sign within 14 days. If your situation is urgent, please tell us when you call and we’ll do everything we can to prioritise your matter.

  • What happens if I die without a Will?

If you die without a valid Will, your estate is distributed under the Intestacy Rules. These rules often don’t reflect what people actually want – for example, unmarried partners and stepchildren do not automatically inherit, and it can cause significant delays, costs and distress for the family left behind. Having a Will is the only way to make sure your wishes are followed.

  • Can I write my own Will?

You can, but DIY and online Wills are one of the most common reasons families end up in dispute or costly probate problems. Small mistakes – missing signatures, unclear wording, or witnesses who shouldn’t have signed – can make a Will invalid. A solicitor-drafted Will is legally watertight and costs less than most people expect.

  • Can you visit me at home?

Yes. If you can’t travel to our Melton Mowbray office due to age, illness or mobility, we can arrange a home visit by agreement. Just let us know when you enquire.

  • Where will my Will be stored?

We offer free secure storage of your Will for as long as you wish, and we provide you with a copy for your own records. Your executors will be told where to find the original when the time comes.

  • How often should I review my Will?

We recommend reviewing your Will every three to five years, and any time your circumstances change – marriage, divorce, the birth of a child or grandchild, a house move, or a significant change in assets. Small updates can usually be made with a codicil; bigger changes may need a new Will.

  • Why choose Andrew Isaacs Law?

We are local, award-winning specialists who deal with Wills, probate and family matters every day. We offer transparent fixed fees, free storage, a 14-day turnaround and a warm, jargon-free approach. Our Melton Mowbray office is rated as one of Leicestershire’s Best Solicitors 2025.
