A 40-year career built on determination, independence and advocacy

I qualified as a Solicitor on 15 November 1985, marking the beginning of a legal career shaped as much by background as by ambition. I was the first person in my family to go to university. My grandfather was a coal miner, and my father left school at fourteen to become an apprentice fitter at the Doncaster plant. Education and the professions were not familiar territory in my family, but hard work and self-reliance were.
I was educated locally, completing my A-levels at Doncaster Grammar School, before going on to study law at the University of Nottingham. From the outset, I was drawn to the practical application of law rather than theory alone. I completed my articles at Taylor Glover & Hill (now Taylor Bracewell), where I developed a solid grounding in litigation and professional discipline that would underpin the rest of my career.
After qualifying, I moved to Coles Millers in Poole, where my career accelerated rapidly. I was made partner after just two years, a significant achievement at an early stage, reflecting both results and commitment. However, I had always been determined to build something of my own. In 1989, I took the decisive step of setting up an independent practice.
Over the following years, that practice grew into a substantial firm in Bournemouth, ultimately employing 27 fee earners. Managing growth, people, risk and reputation while maintaining legal standards was a formative experience, teaching lessons that no textbook can provide.
In 2008, I returned to my roots in Doncaster and founded what would become Andrew Isaacs Law – a boutique litigation practice specialising in matrimonial and family law. The focus was deliberate: complex, emotionally charged disputes where clarity, independence and strong advocacy matter most.
Today, Andrew Isaacs Law operates across Doncaster, Rotherham, Gainsborough, Melton Mowbray and Leighton Buzzard, serving clients nationally while remaining grounded in the communities it operates in.
Looking back, my career has been defined by independence, calculated risk-taking, and a commitment to doing things properly. From a mining family in Doncaster to leading a multi-office litigation practice, the journey has been demanding – but profoundly rewarding.
