I want to make sure that you understand what is involved, and hopefully this will help.
In every expert divorce lawyerās office will be a number of books, and I am going to tell you what these books are ā and there will be other videos which explain more in detail about each book ā but this is just a very quick summary ā just so that you know.
You might want to go and buy them ā they cost quite a lot of money, I am not on commission, so thatās up to you. I am just going to tell you what these books are.
The first one is the āFamily Law Protocolā. This is the 3rd edition, and this explains how youāre supposed to deal with things ā what approach youāre supposed to take. So thatās book one.
Big one now: This is the āFamily Court Practice 2015ā ā it comes out every year, usually in June.
As you can see itās quite lengthy. Each year they also bring out a supplement, which is quite big on its own, and in this book ā which we all call āthe red bookā is lots and lots of stuff ā youāve got statutes, youāve got statutory instruments, youāve got the family procedural rules ā which are really important.
And also thereās reference to lots and lots of precedents ā lots of cases ā those cases are not in here ā and if they were, it would fill this room ā but thereās lots of case law.
So thatās those. And then, what you could find, which is very helpful, is this: āAt a Glanceā. It comes out, again, every year, and this is useful, especially when youāre in court. Itās got a lot of information in it.
And then I mentioned about case law. This is very helpful again, and this is called āThe Dictionaryā ā itās not got a sexy title ā āThe Dictionary of Financial Remediesā ā comes out again every year.
The President of the Family Division ā Sir James Munby likes it ā heās written an introduction of it ā and this talks about the case law thatās relevant in the divorce, alright?
But again it doesnāt include the cases themselves ā youāve got to go elsewhere for that. So that is the essential books that I would recommend that you have to hand if youāre doing a divorce.
