Andrew Isaacs – Doncaster divorce lawyer, books you need to read

I want to make sure that you understand what is involved, and hopefully this will help.

In every expert divorce lawyer’s office will be a number of books, and I am going to tell you what these books are – and there will be other videos which explain more in detail about each book – but this is just a very quick summary – just so that you know.

You might want to go and buy them – they cost quite a lot of money, I am not on commission, so that’s up to you. I am just going to tell you what these books are.

The first one is the ‘Family Law Protocol’. This is the 3rd edition, and this explains how you’re supposed to deal with things – what approach you’re supposed to take. So that’s book one.

Big one now: This is the ‘Family Court Practice 2015’ – it comes out every year, usually in June.

As you can see it’s quite lengthy. Each year they also bring out a supplement, which is quite big on its own, and in this book – which we all call ‘the red book’ is lots and lots of stuff – you’ve got statutes, you’ve got statutory instruments, you’ve got the family procedural rules – which are really important.

And also there’s reference to lots and lots of precedents – lots of cases – those cases are not in here – and if they were, it would fill this room – but there’s lots of case law.

So that’s those. And then, what you could find, which is very helpful, is this: ‘At a Glance’. It comes out, again, every year, and this is useful, especially when you’re in court. It’s got a lot of information in it.

And then I mentioned about case law. This is very helpful again, and this is called ‘The Dictionary’ – it’s not got a sexy title – ‘The Dictionary of Financial Remedies’ – comes out again every year.

The President of the Family Division – Sir James Munby likes it – he’s written an introduction of it – and this talks about the case law that’s relevant in the divorce, alright?

But again it doesn’t include the cases themselves – you’ve got to go elsewhere for that. So that is the essential books that I would recommend that you have to hand if you’re doing a divorce.
